My Chemical Romance: Live in San Antonio

Original Publication Date: August 25, 2022

San Antonio - An adventure was to be had on the evening of the My Chemical Romance concert, and it was indeed had. The My Chemical Romance tour has been a major event that many fans of various ages have been dying to get tickets for.

At the announcement of the tour hordes of fans anticipated which shows they might be able to attend and many made plans to buy tickets. Sadly, tickets went fast.

It was only two days before the event when this reporter checked his email and found out the bands management had reached out only hours before to inform us that we had a ticket waiting for us. A decision had to be made, jump in the car, or say "Maybe next time."

Needless to say, we jumped in the car and drove the two hours to see this show that thousands of fans all over the country had been dying to see. Knowing that not everyone was fortunate enough to get their hands on tickets, there was no way we could turn this opportunity down.

Was it the right decision? Absolutely.

Truth be told, we never really listened to My Chemical Romance, and never really thought about it. Though we had nothing against the band or the music, it just never came up which we know will shock many fans of group.

Upon arriving at the AT&T Center we were directed to media parking and waded through a crowd of fans lined up in all directions. If Hot Topic had a con this is what it would look like, and we mean that in the best of ways.

Having not been a major fan our curiosity peaked the closer we got to the will call entrance. Everyone in attendance looked like someone we have hung out with, or would at any given time.

With our ticket secured we found our seat which was in a prime location. Seated only four rows from the stage left we had not only a great and close view of the stage, but also a great view of the arena, fans, and backstage area.

After the opening acts, which were above par in skill and showmanship, it was finally time for the main event. This was going to be my first taste of My Chemical Romance.

We knew their fans were die hard and committed to the music that meant so much to them and most likely still does. As the lights went down the anticipation and excitement of the crowd began to grow.

From our seat we could see the band making their way from the back stage area to the stage and the crowd went from on edge to ecstatic. The opening song was "Foundations of Decay" which the audience erupted to as this was the moment they had been waiting for.

Throughout the show we were treated to the teenage girl behind me screaming "I love you Gerard!" which many times was deafening. However, we couldn't really be upset by this as we knew this had to be a moment she would remember for years to come.

The song as well as the ones that followed were not only good, but each had a chorus that the fans resonated with. Audience participation was at its peak with this performance.

The band was happy to be in front of their people, and the people were overjoyed to be in

front of their band. As the group went into the song "Teenagers" we had to note that the song was not only catchy, but it showcased the versatility and musicianship of the group.

The song had a fun beat and classic guitar riffs that just made everyone feel good. Being new to the music, it was impossible not to enjoy the show.

Between the fans, the band, and the music, enjoyment was contagious. It was rock, it was metal, but not aggressive, it was oddly, happy.

This was undoubtedly a feel good concert with people who for two hours, all got along, and had no worries. Moments like that are rare and meant to be enjoyed.

Then there was a song called "Welcome to the Black Parade." We can't really call this a song if we are being totally honest.

No, in fact if someone called this a song, we would have to wholeheartedly disagree.

"Welcome to the back Parade" is not a song, it's an anthem.

Between the audience participation during "I'm Not Okay" and this anthem that had the thousands in attendance marching in place we came to a realization. This rocks.

As the show came to a close the mood was still positive overall. The people were happy, fulfilled, and at least for the evening, complete.

Seeing the crowds reaction to the guitar solos, the lyrics, and charismatic lead singer was

something we won't forget anytime soon; and much like the others in attendance, seeing My Chemical Romance is something we won't soon forget either.

We were welcomed to the black parade and for that evening, we were all okay.
