Anaheim - How many of us at one time or another as young musicians have said to ourselves. "well I'm pretty good I can probably be a studio musician that would be pretty cool?
Many of us have had that thought at one time or another in our travels through musicianship. How many of us have actually ever become a studio musician though?
What does it take? How do I get there? Where do I start? Well at the NAMM Show we have the perfect people to tell us more about that.
Well the musicians at Studio Musician Academy are now online to help answer those questions. We had the pleasure of talking with Miles McPherson who gave us some more information about what the academy has to offer musicians of any level.
One would believe that it is as simple as just being a good player who can rip on their instrument, but honestly most of us have learned the hard way that it simply isn't so. A session player has to be a bit more than that as Miles tells us.
What could be more important than killing it on your axe, kit or mic? Servicing a song for one thing.
What does it mean to service a song? Simply put, giving the tune what it needs as opposed to showing off your skills.
Sometimes a song needs precision, other times maybe it needs some grit or a tight in the pocket groove. A good session player can fill those gaps.
What about studio etiquette, staying professional at a gig, touring, or finding work. Sometimes the all important first step is getting your foot in the door.
Though many of us considered taking the path of the studio musician at one time or another, the simple fact is, we had no idea how to start or even get there. Many musicians of the past have said they fell into it.
Well the Studio Musician Academy can fill a role that mentor that we didn't have access to. These well seasoned professionals can show you the ropes and get you to where you want to be in the music world.
Boasting impressive resumes both in the studio and touring, you won't be learning from any musician. You will be learning from players who have been there, done that, and are ready to share their knowledge.
