This morning the album The Art of Change by indie electronic artist DROELOE dropped
and we had to have a listen. Now as many readers know, electronic music is not something we talk about too much, but it is something we actually enjoy.
Being in that great generation that lived through portions of both the 80's and 90's we had the great privilege of being exposed to a wide variety of, well everything. From music, to fashion, the internet, rotary phones, VHS, Cassettes, CD's, DVD's, Rap, Rock, Pop, Dance, R&B and the list goes on, we have experienced a little something from every genre that we have enjoyed.
What about this new album? does it hold true to our eclectic taste?
Well to start with let's talk a little more about DROELOE. Hailed as a breakthrough artist in the world of indie electronic music the artist recently released his single Downside Up Ft. Transviolet.
The track itself builds. Starting with outstanding vocals and a dreamlike atmosphere the song then gives way to synth beats that give the vocals room to expand.
Though the BPM stays a bit constant, the pace is that of a rollercoaster going through calm and exciting movements. Though there is constant sound there are moments of silence(not actual silence) where the listener can just zone out and groove to the music.
The single itself fits with the overall scheme of the album as it is definitely one that you can turn on, and just let play. Fit for a movie or video game soundtrack, the album is also suitable for a drive, a party, a club, or just playing while you're at home.
In a nutshell the album is versatile in respect to where it belongs, which is something we especially enjoyed about it. The track that stood out the most to us was Landscape Ft. Banji.
Landscape stood out to us because of how warm and upbeat it was, some would even say optimistic. To be perfectly honest it gave us "Adventure Time" vibes which are always very welcomed.
The album tends to change emotions as the listener goes through the tracks, as every good album should. The artist tends to evoke themes of optimism, motivation, gratitude, warmth and determination as he builds upon the layers of this album.
Would we recommend The Art of Change to our readers, watchers, and listeners?
Absolutely.
This album is one that we would call a breath of fresh air, not just for the world of electronic music, but music in general. Truth be told even rock and pop music has become a bit cliche when it comes to most, but not all, mainstream releases.
This album though, is one that took us by surprise. Listening to the final moments of Counting Ten as we wrap up this review, we can't help but notice that the artist wrapped up the album perfectly with that final track.
The words that close out the album linger with curiosity, the wisdom of age, and the subtle optimism of youth, making for a well rounded mindset for a well rounded album.
Should you be looking for something new to listen to, or just find yourself curious, listen to The Art of Change. At the very least it is worth a listen, but we feel that it is something most music fans of any genre will be pleased with.
The album is out now and can be purchased via Bandcamp and to the delight of many, will be available on vinyl. We hope to get our hands on a physical copy and encourage all to do the same.
In addition to the release of this album DROELOE will also be touring the US throughout the months of September and October in the Northern and central states from California to New York. Be sure to check out his tour dates and give this album a listen.
