ANAHEIM - It was a total showcase from Yamaha as it is every year at NAMM. The music company had a lot to offer and brought an impressive array of products to this years convention.

(FULL INTERVIEW BELOW)

Prior to meeting up with Andy we stopped in the main entrance of the Yamaha booth which had on display the custom purple piano that was custom made for Prince during his Piano and a Microphone performances at Paisley Park.

Noted as the final piano used during the Artists final days it is in fact so much more when looked at against the Purple One's history in music. The piano itself is a Yamaha C7X SH which Prince was known to use at tour dates in his studio.

When looking back on the history of Prince and pianos it is fitting that the Artist also used a Yamaha CP-70 on several albums including Purple Rain. The Artist can also be seen using a purple CP-70 in the Purple Rain movie.

Needless to say, Prince was a longstanding user of Yamaha gear.

After paying homage to the late icon it was time to go inside the main showroom to see what the music company had in store for us. Upon checking in our guide, Andy, took us on a tour of new and improved upon gear.

As always, Andy never disappoints with his high energy and overall excitement to showcase the brands products.

Starting off with a new product category for the brand, we looked at the performance grade model of guitars that Yamaha now has for us. The great thing about the lineup of guitars is that like always, you are going to get more bang for your buck.

The idea behind the new category is to have a price point that delivers more quality for less money. The company has players in mind when it comes to the new equipment.

Also on display was the Silent Series of guitars which not only packs great sound, but also travels effortlessly. With a detachable body the silent series of guitar can easily fit into the overhead compartment of an airplane, unlike the standard bodied acoustics we are all used to.

A thin gig bag makes the instrument easily transportable and the built in electronics deliver a great sound for players of all levels. Available in both Nylon and steel strings the instrument has headphone out and aux inputs so that you have a variety of uses for the guitar in both performing and practicing.
