Yohio: Dim Dayz

Yohio
Album Art from Dim Dayz by Yohio

Swedish artist Yohio has released a new single entitled Dim Dayz which is now streaming on music platforms worldwide.

Those in the know will remember Yohio from the Visual Kei scene popularized in Japanese culture that has a large following in many countries around the world. Spending his earlier years in bands such as Seremedy and Disreign.

Recently the international artist has toured with Kamijo on guitar. The artist was known early on for his shredding guitar prowess and lolita fashion style.

Throughout the years Yohio came into his own by venturing out with solo releases such as Break the Border and A Pretty Picture in a Most Disturbing Way where he was featured on vocals and served as a frontman for his backing bands.

Now in 2024 Yohio has released Dim Dayz on September 25th which is one of his Japanese Singles. The artist notes that this song has been with him for many years but has only been performed once in Japan during a solo show parts of which are available on YouTube.

Yohio stated on his Patreon that this single was supposed to be released on a mini album in 2019 but unfortunately did not materialize due to circumstances he did not elaborate on. Unfortunately for fans this also means the physical CD that was to accompany the mini album was never made either.

Now in a world where people love the convenience of digital streaming, those of us who prefer physical media are left without this gem of a release.

The song itself is upbeat and does well to showcase the versatility of Yohios vocal range. In the past we have heard him use a wide range of vocal abilities from vibrato to heavier screams.

Dim Dayz specifically shows off the strength and power behind the singers voice while at the same time showcasing the delicate side of his vocal abilities. One thing that has always stood out about the artist is the power behind his almost operatic/theatric vocals and those continue to shine on this single.

The song itself feels like it could be on a soundtrack for a variety of media as it maintains a good balance of groove and pacing. The song itself maintains an upbeat tempo without feeling rushed and does a great job of not detracting from the overall feel of the arrangement.

The balance of the instruments is great as not one part overpowers the others. With straight forward chord progressions the song manages to build and has layers to it that make it a fun listen wether driving, working, or just vibing.

The single does not feature a solo, but a solo is also not warranted as the break suits the songs needs perfectly. One thing that we have come to love about the musical stylings of Yohio is that he tends to build around what the song needs as opposed to strictly being formulaic with his arrangements.

The stand out in Dim Dayz is definitely Yohio's vocals but the single does not lack in any aspect. This is a solid release, a solid performance, built on a solid structure of musical components.

When it comes down to it, this is an all around great single that is easy to enjoy and an easy addition to our playlists.

We did reach out to Yohio for comment on this track but did not receive a response. Keep your eyes and ears open however, as we hope new releases are in the works from the artist.

So far we have not been disappointed with recent releases and can't what to see what Yohio has planned for the future.

Dim Dayz is currently streaming on Spotify and a variety of other streaming services.
